About

Will has been in the BHP Corporate Finance team since January 2015, having previously trained as a Certified Accountant at JWPCreers in York.

He has been heavily involved within the Leeds business networking community and joined the committee in 2015 in order to give something back and help develop the organisation.

Getting to know you

What does the Professional 100 Club mean to you?
The P100 club means a lot to me as I came to Leeds knowing only a few people within the business community. It was therefore a gateway to establishing a network of good contacts within the corporate finance and related industries.

It is an informal way of meeting likeminded people in a fun and relaxed atmosphere, often with a drink or two.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
All being well I’ll be retired and enjoying the sunnier climate of Barbados … I wish! Hopefully I will have established myself within the corporate finance community and finished decorating my house, which in all fairness is also wishful thinking.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?
Becoming a fully qualified Certified Accountant after what seemed like a lifetime of revision and examinations.

Getting to know you

What does the Professional 100 Club mean to you?
The Professional 100 Club provides an opportunity to meet like-minded individuals in a relaxed and informal environment and a platform to develop relationships with intermediaries at similar stages on the career path.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Hopefully well-established further up the food chain in the world of Due Diligence, inspiring others to develop and working in a firm and team that allows me to thrive.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?
Without doubt, the highlight of my career to date was precisely 12.00pm Friday 11th December 2015 – finding out I had passed my final exam and becoming a Chartered Accountant.

What does the Professional 100 Club mean to you?

The P100 Club is a great way for people to make contacts at similar levels in the Leeds professional market, across a variety of sectors and services.  This is done in a friendly but organised way.

It is important to the committee that the members find the events beneficial for networking.  Therefore every effort is made to group people with the right contacts and with the events being themed in some way, attendees are never short of a conversation starter!

Well on my way to being a partner.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?
Succeeding at trial for an insolvency practitioner client after a very long fought battle with a difficult defendant.

About:

I have been working for Handelsbanken just over 3 years at present. I joined from University as an Intern and then secured a permanent role as an Account Manager Support in Harrogate. A year ago I was successful in obtaining a relationship management position in one of the branches based in Leeds. Shortly after starting this role I qualified as a Mortgage Advisor and I have been assisting personal customers with their banking requirements ever since. My job involves looking after a portfolio of personal clients, being a direct contact for their full banking needs for things such as mortgage right through to opening bank accounts, as well as driving business development for the Branch.

Getting to know you

I love trying new things, from activities to get the adrenaline going or new food and drink establishments in Leeds. I have always had a massive affinity for water sports and when I can, I love to go Surfing and Scuba Diving (not sure you’ll see me doing it down the River Aire mind).

What does the Professional 100 Club mean to you?

I believe the P100 is a great place to meet other professionals from the Leeds area in a friendly and fun environment. It gives you a great opportunity to gain further professional contacts and widen your professional network.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In 5 years I see myself having moved across within the company to work in our regional credit department, to further develop my credit knowledge and skills. This will assist me with my ambition to become a Branch Manager in the future.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

Wow this is a tough one, because as cheesy as it sounds there has been so many moments so far in my career that have been a highlight. However if I had to chose one it would probably be completing my first mortgage. After all the hard work doing my CeMAP and further internal training it felt like it had paid off, and the joy you bring to the customer helping them with such an emotional investment is just brilliant. It is a huge privilege to assist customers with one of the biggest financial transactions of their life, it is great to think that I can contribute towards making a potentially stressful period a little easier.

Outside of work, Tamanna is a keen musician and is particularly keen on attending festivals.

Getting to know you

What does the Professional 100 Club mean to you?

The Professional 100 Club is unique in that it facilitates relationships with a range of professionals in Leeds that are all at a similar level to me. There is a conscious effort to ensure that attendees get the maximum exposure to new contacts and relationships that may be able to help out in the future and it has definitely helped me to establish contacts within the corporate finance industry.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I see myself as a senior associate, successfully leading and completing corporate transactions alongside a supportive team.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

Obviously qualifying as a solicitor is very high on my list of highlights but I think this was topped off with my first transaction being the sale of a controlling stake in the Peppa Pig brand.

About

Martin is an Assistant Manager in the Restructuring, Recovery & Insolvency department at Armstrong Watson LLP and deals with both individual and corporate insolvencies.

Martin joined Armstrong Watson LLP two years ago, having previously worked as a Bankruptcy Case Administrator at a larger firm. The move to Armstrong Watson LLP has allowed Martin to increase his exposure to corporate insolvency work and also expand his personal insolvency experience through a number of complex bankruptcy cases.

Getting to know you

What does the Professional 100 Club mean to you?

I have attended P100 events for a number of years and always found them to be a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The events are varied and have offered me an opportunity to meet with likeminded professionals and expand my network of contacts beyond the recovery and insolvency market.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

My aim is to pass the Joint Insolvency Examination Board exams and qualify as an Insolvency Practitioner.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

The highlight of my career to date was qualifying as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 2016.

I would also say that working on my first trading administration was both a challenging and extremely rewarding experience. I was responsible for the preparation of the Joint Administrators’ Proposals. This is a statutory document issued in all administrations. The volume and hostility of some creditors, coupled with the nature of the business meant that the Proposals were subject to a high level of scrutiny. The Proposals document was completed to a high standard and issued within a timely manner.

Getting to know you

What does the Professional 100 Club mean to you?

Right from my first ever month in industry in 2014, the P100 has been an excellent way to become acquainted with like-minded people in the same, but also different, industries who are at a similar stage in their career to myself. So far, it has provided useful professional contacts as well as numerous contacts I can actually now call friends. For me, whether these contacts go on to have an impact on my career or not is secondary to having established strong relationships for life.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Hopefully having made the next level within Investec and managing a bank of clients under my own name, as well as continuing to support a growing number of clients as at present within a team. I also hope to have moved onto the property ladder

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

Becoming Chartered whilst achieving a Merit in my first written paper, being only 1 of 2 nationally to do so.
